Now why exactly would someone stop eating meat ?
Three main points :
1) Meat is bad for Your health
2) Meat is bad for the Humanity & the Planet
3) Meat is tremendous suffering for the animals
Details :
Now this guy explain in 1hour every point you may be reflecting upon. You can also read my additional details below.
1) Meat is bad for Your health
- Heart disease, cancer, food-poisoning, obesity, you name it.Most science research paper end up with similar conclusions : meat consumption is linked to increased colon cancer, and many other types. You want sources ? Well check online. :)
- Meat is packed with antibiotics, growth hormones, and toxins due to the stress from terrible raising and slaughtering conditions.
- Meat is often contaminated by feces during the slaughtering which makes contamination by e-colli and other bacterias frequent.
- Meat is a nest for harmful / dangerous bacterias, worms and parasites.
2) Meat is bad for the Humanity & the Planet
- The production of meat is clearly not-efficient. It means you need to use much more water, grains, land to make meat instead of using directly the veggies and grains. So meat is actually WASTING food.- Animals' feces pollute the grounds, gas due to digestion increase the global warming effect (methane...)
- Consumption of grains for the meat industry increases the demand on the markets : price of basic crops becomes too high for poor families who therefore cannot afford the basic food simply because you want to get your daily burger.
3) Meat is tremendous suffering for the animals
This video speaks for all the points below :
- Everytime you buy meat, you pay someone to kill for you. So everytime you buy meat, you kill animals.
- Animals are sentient beings : they long for happiness and fear pain and suffering, just like us. This is the one true thing we have in common with all living beings.
-Animals are clever : they understand things in their own way, they have the love for their babies, they long for companionship, they live in their own "societies" with their preferred companions. Even fish have hierarchy, and a feeling of belonging to a group.
- There is no such thing as "humane killing". When time of death is coming, the animal is already frightened by a long transportation to a place he doesn't know. He then arrives, smells the blood of his brothers and sisters, and hear their screamings. Animals know death is coming and they are scared. Levels of toxins due to stress are increasingly spreading in their body. Would you enjoy being "humanly killed"? If not, why do you think its acceptable for other living beings ?
I once asked a man who used to work in a slaughterhouse if animals knew death was coming. He replied :
"Definitely, the worst was with the horses : when I was about to take them to cut their throat, they would start to cry..."
People often come back to me with claims like:
1) "We are made to eat meat / we evolved to eat meat" : NOT TRUEOur body is designed to eat veggies and fruits. Just look at our intestine's length, our teeth, can you really rip flesh by teeth from a dead cow ?
2) "We need protein from meat" : NOT TRUE
Plenty of proteins from veggies. Where do you think a 200kg (veggie) gorilla gets its proteins ?!
3)The animal is already killed so it won't make a difference : NOT TRUE
Basic law in economy : Demand and Offer. When you buy, you send a signal to increase the offer. So you're not killing the animal you eat, you're actually killing the next one to replace the one you bought on the shelf.
4) "I need meat to have muscles" : NOT TRUE
Check this out :
5) "Plants are sensitive too" : Eating meat wastes more plants than being vegan.
If you consider plants suffer, then you create more suffering by eating meat, because eating meat requires using more grains and plants than a vegan diet. So either you decide to starve yourself, either you reduce your impact by just being vegan.
6) "Vegetarian food is not good" : NOT TRUE.
Open your eyes, investigate for new food, and you'll find that there are plenty of alternatives to your steak. In particular, you need to connect to the real nice taste of Compassion !
7) "Yeah, but I love bacon!" : =
Well, if you like to eat the dead body of an animal, if you like to shorten your life span, if you accept to be responsible for the animals' suffering, and if you accept to finance industries that pollute your planet and harm other humans, it's your choice...
My plead :
By becoming vegetarian/vegan, you can improve your health, increase your life span, develop your connection to the animal realm and develop compassion, take part in the improvement of our environment.
You can show others this compassionate way and guide them now !
